Breaking the Ice/Think Time

 

Why is telling the truth difficult? How does it feel to be lied to?

Quick Review… Looking back at your notes from this Sunday’s sermon, what caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?

Understanding the Truth (Aim for 30 minutes)

 

Read Exodus 20:16

1. What was the original intent of the 9th command? Why is obedience to this command essential to having trust in our justice system as a society? 

2. How is withholding information lying? What are the consequences of this in your life and the life of the person you seek to protect?

3. Why is telling and living the truth so important? What impact do duplicity and deception have in our lives and relationships? 

4. In what ways and for what reasons do you find yourself speaking and/or living in less than full truthfulness? Example: (to protect something or someone or avoid consequences)

5. Read Col 3:9 and Eph 4:25. What can we learn from these New Testament verses about lying? 

Living the Truth (Aim for 20 minutes)

1. How can we rely upon the Gospel and Christ each day for victory in being truthful?

2. What practical suggestions do you think will most help you in “declaring war on deceit” in your life? Why? When and how will you put this into practice?
