Small Group Discussion Guide

For the Week of June 14, 2020

Connecting (Aim for 15 minutes)

Breaking the Ice: Think Time

Share with the group your earliest memory of stealing something? What was it and why did you steal it? Or, share a memory of something that was stolen from you and how it made you feel.

Quick Review… Looking back on your notes from Sunday’s sermon, what caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?

Understanding the Truth (Aim for 30 minutes)

1. Why is God so adamant about not stealing? What and whom is he trying to protect?

2. What are some of the reasons for why people steal? What is the ultimate reason for why we steal?

3. Read Galatians 6:7-10. What are the downfalls that inevitably occur when someone begins working outside the spirit (sowing from the flesh)?

4. How does living in light of the command/truth in Colossians 3:23-25, eradicate the many reasons why we may be prone to steal?

Living the Truth (Aim for 20 minutes)

1. Thinking of all the ways that we can steal, in what ways do you struggle with obeying the 8th commandment? What do you need to change and how can you seek God’s help?

2. The Israelites were supposed to leave some food unharvested in their fields for widows and orphans. How can we apply that concept in our lives today? What are steps that you can take in order to live faithfully and be a good steward of the time and resources God has given you?
